babes, we’re going to Lagos!!
Scrap everything you know about Nigerians & the land of scammers! There’s something about a stereotype that keeps people in a chokehold!
Nigeria is a land filled with so much culture, beautiful people, amazing food, fashion & very, very VERY hot weather.
Now, before the journey even began, I happened to have tripped over a couple of stairs and babes, all I can say is I provided the security guys in the back of a Whole Foods a comedy show for a good solid 30 minutes (lol). I desperately needed to return some Amazon packages on my “lunch break”, and as I’m responding to an email walking down the stairs, I trip and miss like 3 steps, hahaha. Anyways, let's just say I was terribly injured and didn’t know how I’d make it through 3 flights the next day, ahaha.
Now to preface - this is my second time to Nigeria & even though I’m African, the people always got something to say! & Something I’ve learned about myself - well, I knew it, but trying to overcome it is not holding on to what people think or how they’ll judge me for doing something that doesn’t seem to “align” with them. It hits me in a way that makes me wanna back out each & every time. Nonetheless, I had non-refundable tix, so that was the one thing keeping me on this trip. I started my journey at 5 am for my first flight to New York & thank God for amazing parents who dropped me off & helped me with my luggage!
flight 1——— DTW—-->> JFK
We made it with a sprained ankle! Lots & lots of waiting happened in between those two flights! Travel tip… I don't know about you, but I have to have a big meal before my international flight. There was literally nothing in my terminal other than Shake Shack so cheers! Flight 2 here we go!
flight 2——— JFK—->> NRB
I will always use an excuse to go to Kenya & this flight, though un-ridiculously long, I got to stop in Nairobi for a couple of hours & it was the best decision I have ever made! I took a little trip right near the airport & met up with my beloved cousin for a few hours so she could fill me in on all the family drama! It was a time. Kinda sad there are no pictures to capture the moment. But I got my hair, nails ,& gossip to last me through flight 3 & then some!
flight 3——— NRB—->> LOS
We made it to LAGOS, NIGERIA! & I can’t believe I really made it! Went through immigration which was a lot nicer than the first time I went & a lovely old gentleman helped me with my bags all the way to the pick-up area. From starting the trip the previous day anxious, to meeting my cousin in Nairobi & arriving to friends in Lagos, who assured me the trip would be all worth it. I arrived feeling excited. As well as anticipating a great two-month journey in Lagos!
Stay tuned for my following posts with updates of my stay in Lagos!
