Volunteering

Mathare Slums Daycare Center

This place is near & dear to my heart & I’ve known this project for years & whenever i have a chance to visit Kenya I am here & hope you will be too! What makes this volunteering experience different than all the rest is that this is a Kenya lead initiative, started by every day people who wanted to help and all proceeds go to the slum unlike other non- profits run by non Kenyans! If you’re able to spend some time volunteering and making a difference in the lives of children. If you need the contact details, send me an email or dm, and I can get you in touch with the coordinator.

Thrifting

Toi Clothes Market

Outdoor Adventures

Hiking in Hell's Gate National Park

Ngong Hills

What to Expect: Spectacular views of the Great Rift Valley and Nairobi. Ideal for hiking and picnicking.

Tips: The trails can be windy, so dress in layers and pack a windbreaker.

Tips: Bargain hard—it’s part of the fun! ( example: I went from 500 USD to 20 USD. They are just trying to see how much of a sucker you are, hehe)

As a Kenyan-American, I frequently visit Kenya and have had the chance to delve into the country's vibrant culture beyond the usual tourist spots. When friends ask for tips, I always recommend soaking in Nairobi's lively city life, rich cultural tapestry, and historical sites. Safaris are incredible, but there's so much more to Kenya!

One of my top activities in Nairobi is hiking the Ngong Hills. The views are absolutely breathtaking, and the fresh air is so invigorating. Another favorite is a relaxing brunch at Java House, where you can sip on their famous coffee and enjoy a delicious meal. Nairobi's cultural experiences, from the bustling Maasai Market to the traditional performances at Bomas of Kenya, are not to be missed.

Connecting with my friends & family has always made my travels extra special. Nairobians are super welcoming and love sharing their culture. Whether it’s chatting in a local coffee shop or joining a community event, these interactions have deepened my love for the city and its people.

Nairobi truly has it all—wildlife, nature, culture, and modern comforts. Whether you're an adventure lover, culture enthusiast, or just looking to relax with some good food, Nairobi is the place for you. Dive into the heart of Kenya and discover why Nairobi is the gem of Africa.
